Lesson 6

Lesson Plan #6Fluency Check with multiples of 2s, 5s, 9s, 10s

Performance Objective: Given an ipad and online access to an assessment check on Quizzizz, students will correctly answer multiplication equations with a factor of 2, 5, 9, or 10, 9 out of 10 times.

Resources or Materials Needed: ipad, internet access, multiplication flashcards

Time: 30 minutes

Step 1: Pre-Instructional Activities: Review 2s, 5s, 9s, and 10s count bys and multiplications by playing a multiplication race game.  Split the students into two equal groups and have them line up next to each other in two lines.  The two students at the front of the line race to answer a multiplication equation that the teacher holds up on a flashcard.  The winner gets to sit down, and the loser moves to the back of the line to try again.  The team who sits down first wins.

Step 2: Content Presentation: Begin instruction as a whole group and end with independent fact assessment.

Step 3: Learner Participation: Each student participates in the class game and then gets an ipad and takes the online quiz.

Step 4: Assessment: Fluency check on Quizziz of multiples of 2, 5, 9, and 10.

Step 5: Follow-Through Activities: Check the results of the assessment online to see which students are ready to move on and which students need reteaching.

Lesson Plan Summary: The lesson begins with a game to help students review the multiplication facts they have been learning.  When the game is over, the teacher reviews how to login to Quizziz so the students can take their online assessment.  The students are given an ipad and take the assessment on Quizziz.  This instructional strategy supports the learning theory of cognitivism because students are tested on what they know.
